3D printing

Since 2014 I have been exploring 3D modelling and 3D printing by creating different products. On this page you can view some projects I made throughout the years.

Stool

I have always wanted to use my desktop 3D printer for a furniture piece that's easy to print and strong enough to hold up for everyday use.

With this project I explored using 3D printed parts to create a stool that doesn't need any glue or metal screws. Instead this stool uses only 3D modeled joints to create strong connections, and in that way fully benefits from the possibilities a 3D printer offers.

Daring

The necklace acts as a memento of a trip the wearer took to South Africa. This trip was very memorable for her because she was there with her family and it was a place where she could be herself. It felt like home.

The shape of the necklace is inspired by the outline of an elephant head. From a front view, people will only see the outline of an elephant. From a top view the necklace is special because of the hidden message that only the wearer can see. For this necklace the wearer can look down and see the word 'daring'; this word is meaningful for the person who was interviewed for this project and reminds her of her family. The hidden message adds an extra dimension to the piece, a personal value.

Rapid letter — letter pieces

Rapid letter

As 3D printing is often perceived as a slow process, this project set out to prove it can also be used for rapid production. The key requirement was a printing time of approximately five minutes per piece. The coupling parts were validated to print within 3 minutes, after which letters were added — keeping the total under 5 minutes. The letters are designed to print in a single line so the nozzle never has to lift, speeding up the process.

Miniature Japanese Lamp

My goal with this project was to use the traditional Japanese lamp design as a starting point to design a small lamp that not only looks modern and cute but is also simple to make. The total height of this lamp is 9,8 cm and you can make it in four simple steps.

Mario Inspired Coasters

One of my more playful projects in the collection, a set of Mario-inspired question block coasters. Each coaster is printed in two parts and attached with magnets on the side, allowing them to stack and connect to one another in a satisfying and functional way.

Miniature Design Chair

The Eames Lounge Chair is one of the most iconic pieces of furniture ever designed. I created a 1:10 scale miniature using 3D modelling and printing. The scale was precise enough to capture the silhouette and character of the original. The 3D print was made as a personal gift for people who own the real chair, and paired with a custom-made box to present and store it in.
