Simple and intuitive wayfinding solutions for different spaces and user groups. All projects were conducted in different project teams at Mijksenaar.
Mijksenaar is a world-renowned design bureau for wayfinding and information design based in Amsterdam. They develop wayfinding systems for complex environments including museums, healthcare facilities and public spaces. At Mijksenaar, I was part of different project teams working on wayfinding assignments across a range of scales and contexts.
Understanding the context
Wayfinding design is the process of guiding people through complex built environments. At Mijksenaar, every project starts with understanding the needs of different user groups — from first-time visitors unfamiliar with a space to daily users who navigate it routinely.
From strategy to execution
The deliverables range from spatial maps and digital information systems to physical signage and wayfinding strategies. Each solution is tailored to the unique context of the space, the users and the organisation it serves — always balancing clarity with the visual identity of the environment.
As a Junior Information Designer, I worked across various project phases, from analysis and strategy to the development of graphic design solutions. Over time I took on additional responsibilities, including visiting the client at Hanze Hogeschool to align on projects and work out the details, conducting expert walkthroughs to analyse the context and shape the wayfinding strategy, and creating a 3D model of the building to map sightlines and plan sign placement.
